Hedi Kyle schreef me in oktober 2007:
“Oh my, that secret Belgian binding! The story goes: years ago in Ascona I learned this binding from one of my students, a German woman, Jutta, whose last name I have to find. She didn’t know sure where it came from but thought from Belgium. So we made up the name Secret Belgian Binding. I imported the secret to USA and taught it to many people. I have a rather sketchy hand-out that was drawn by Jutta and to my shame I never made a more explicit one. But now I will and also I am going to send you a model.”
Het is een lijmloze binding, die vernuftig in elkaar steekt: het naaisel verbindt het boekblok met de platten en de rug. Het resultaat is een eenvoudig ogend, perfect functionerend boek. Een juweeltje.
Inmiddels is het geheim ontrafeld. Anne Goy (B) presenteerde haar binding voor het eerst in 1986. Het was voor haar een onderdeel van een zoeken naar nieuwe naaimethodes, niet wetend dat het een eigen leven begon te leiden. Deze binding had geen naam. Ze wilt het nu graag de 'reliure crisscross' of de 'crisscross binding' noemen.
Aan de hand van een model èn de beschrijving die ik van Hedi heb gekregen, wordt deze 1-daagse workshop gegeven.
Anne Goy gaf me toestemming om deze workshop te geven.

Van 10.00 – 17.00 uur (inclusief lunchpauze)
Kosten: € 110,00 p.p.
Hierin zijn inbegrepen: materialen, lunch, koffie / thee en BTW.
Gereedschap is aanwezig.
Reis- en verblijfkosten zijn voor rekening van de deelnemer.
Deelnemers kunnen in het Nederlands, Engels of Duits begeleid worden.

A pleasant introduction to a non-adhesive binding, which is shrewdly constructed: the sewing connects the book block with the boards and the spine. The result is a simple looking, perfectly working book, opening flat and free. A jewel.
Hedi Kyle (USA) rediscovered this binding, which mysterious origin is attributed to the Belgians, and generously taught it.
Meanwhile the secret is unraveld. Anne Goy (B) presented her binding for the first time in 1986. For her it was part of a searching of new sewing systems, not knowing it started to live on his own. There was no name for this binding. She likes to call it 'reliure crisscross'or the 'crisscross binding'.
Anne Goy gave me permission to give this workshop.
This class is based on a model and description Hedi made for me, specially for this workshop.
It is a good opportunity to widen your field of vision on making books.
For beginners and advanced students.
The group will be restricted to six people only.
